Knit-a-Bit Classes

It is hard not to compare Knit-A-Bit’s class schedule with the Thanksgiving meal.

Like the annual November feast, there is a lot of preparation. We slave away in the kitchen, chopping, dicing, frying, simmering, and roasting. We cook all kinds of dishes in the hopes of appealing to Aunt Mabel, our sister-in-law’s cousin, and her vegan boyfriend. We get the table set, put the turkey and the fixings out, call in our guests...and the meal is consumed in 15 minutes.

Some of the dishes are gone and some are untasted, but generally the participants can be found sprawled in a state of deep contentment. And of course, there will be leftovers.

We will surely offer some classes that you have been anxious to try, some that you already know, some that you like but, alas, there is no room left on the plate. Classes can fill up and disappear as fast as those sweet potato with marshmallows. If the class you had your eye on is “consumed,” try something else, you may just find you have a new favorite!

  • Knit-ALong (KAL)

    FREE!

A Knit-Along is a group of people working on the same project with the guidance and encouragement of all the other participants. The KAL is a forum for its participants to interact with other knitters and share their individual experiences with the project-problems, work-arounds, and successes. While a qualified Knit-a-Bit instructor will lead the KAL to share her experiences with and insights into the project, the KAL should not be confused with a structured class. Think facilitated “stitch and b****,”, not formal class.

The project for the Monday KAL will be the Central Park Hoodie. This straightforward pattern is all the rage on Ravelry. It comes in a wide range of sizes from a 32” to a 60” bust. This KAL presents a great opportunity for its participants to improve their cabling and chart-reading skills.

Prerequisites*: The abilities to knit and purl, to do a long-tail cast-on, to bind-off, to follow a basic pattern, to perform basic shaping, and to do simple increases and decreases.

Materials**: Pattern - please click here to download prior to start of class.

The basics of knitting - long-tail cast-on, knit stitch, purl stitch, bind-off, increasing, decreasing, and pattern reading - will be taught during this class.
